Day 1 | Arrival

Welcome to Bad Bentheim! Take your time checking in at Hotel Bentheimer Hof and getting acquainted with the surroundings.

In the evening, sit down to the first 3-course dinner of your stay. If your visit coincides with one of the night walks led by the town crier, it's a wonderful opportunity to discover Bad Bentheim from a different perspective.

Day 2 | Bentheimer Wald (approx. 14.6 km)

After an extensive breakfast buffet, lace up your walking boots for your first introduction to the beautiful green countryside surrounding Bad Bentheim. The Bentheimer Wald lies just outside the town and offers a magnificent woodland setting where you can quickly leave the hustle and bustle behind.

The route is approximately 14.6 kilometres long, with only gentle changes in elevation. This makes it an ideal first day of walking, allowing you to ease into your holiday and fully enjoy the tranquillity and natural beauty of the Bentheimer Wald.

Upon your return to Hotel Bentheimer Hof, another delicious 3-course dinner awaits.

Day 3 | Sandstone quarries of Bad Bentheim & Gildehaus (approx. 16.8 km)

Today, you'll discover one of Bad Bentheim's most distinctive features. The region's beige-coloured Bentheim sandstone has been quarried here since the Middle Ages and is also known as 'Bentheim gold'. At the height of the industry, more than twenty quarries were operating in the surrounding area.

The walking route leads towards Gildehaus and passes a sandstone quarry that is still in operation. Along the way, you'll combine beautiful natural scenery with the fascinating history of a material that has shaped this region for centuries.

At 16.8 kilometres, with slightly more elevation changes than the first route, this makes for a rewarding full day of walking. In the evening, you'll once again enjoy a 3-course dinner at the hotel.

Day 4 | Bad Bentheim & Schüttorf (approx. 16.9 km)

Still eager to explore? On your final day, a varied walk between Bad Bentheim and Schüttorf awaits. You'll make your way through the green countryside connecting the two towns, discovering another beautiful part of Grafschaft Bentheim.

The route is approximately 16.9 kilometres long, with around 118 metres of elevation gain. Take your time along the way and enjoy a coffee or lunch break before completing your final walk.
