Fortresses and castles

In the Moselle Valley, you will find several castles and fortresses. Pay a visit to Burg Landshut in Bernkastel - Kues. This is a castle ruin that towers high above Bernkastel, and from this spot you also have a beautiful panorama of the Moselle region. This historic ruin is one of the most popular sights in this Mosel town. The history of Burg Landshut dates back to the year 1277. The castle was commissioned by the Archbishops of Trier Heinrich von Vinstingen and his successor Boemund and they are also the namesakes of this historic structure. In 1692 a fatal fire destroyed the castle and much of the building and its precious possessions were lost, but the tower of Burg Landshut was preserved and can still be climbed.
