Following an extensive renovation, a new chapter begins for the iconic Kruisherenhotel Maastricht. From October 2026, the five-star hotel will reopen its doors with completely renovated rooms and suites, as well as a redesigned monastery garden. The remarkable combination of centuries-old heritage and contemporary design has been preserved while being given a fresh and more luxurious look.
The hotel is housed in a former 15th-century monastery with an adjoining Gothic church, right in the historic centre of Maastricht. As soon as you step inside, you will see why this is one of the most distinctive hotels in the Netherlands: soaring vaulted ceilings, monumental architecture, modern art and striking design blend seamlessly together. The hotel has 60 rooms and suites and is affiliated with Design Hotels.
As part of the renovation, the rooms and suites have been redesigned with contemporary comfort, high-quality materials and meticulous attention to detail. Much has changed outside as well. The historic courtyard and monastery garden are being completely transformed to a design by internationally renowned garden designer Piet Oudolf and landscape designer Tom de Witte. The result will be a green, natural oasis with a different atmosphere in every season.
Spencer's Restaurant & Bar will also reopen in October. In this impressive setting, seasonal cuisine takes centre stage, with Chef de Cuisine Tim Signet and his team working as much as possible with carefully selected regional produce. The farm-to-table philosophy is combined with subtle international influences, allowing the menu to evolve with the seasons.
And Maastricht itself is quite literally at your feet. From the hotel, you can easily walk to Vrijthof square, the historic city centre and the stylish shops and boutiques of the Stokstraat Quarter.
