Discover Drenthe on a relaxing 7-day cycling holiday filled with nature, comfort and hospitality. Along the way, you’ll stay in a variety of hotels, allowing you to discover new parts of the province and experience the ever-changing character of the surroundings. The routes take you past vast heathlands, forests, fens, historic villages and the famous hunebeds.

After each day’s cycling, a comfortable hotel awaits where you can relax and reflect on all your experiences. You’ll stay in well-maintained standard rooms; the exact room type may vary from hotel to hotel, but will always match the atmosphere and quality of the accommodation. The following morning, you’ll enjoy a generous breakfast before setting off on a new stage of the journey. Meanwhile, your luggage is transported daily to the next hotel, so you can cycle without a care and make the most of the route. 

Itinerary for the Zuidlaren – Dwingeloo cycling holiday:

• Day 1: Arrival at Brinkhotel – Zuidlaren
• Day 2: Zuidlaren to Zuidlaren (approx. 56 km)
• Day 3: Zuidlaren to Borger / Ees / Odoorn (approx. 55 to 60 km)
• Day 4: Borger / Ees / Odoorn to Borger / Ees / Odoorn (approx. 55 to 60 km)
• Day 5: Borger / Ees / Odoorn to Dwingeloo (approx. 55 to 60 km)
• Day 6: Dwingeloo to Dwingeloo (approx. 60 km)
• Day 7: Dwingeloo to Zuidlaren (approx. 63 km) – Departure

Day 1: Arrival at Brinkhotel
The trip begins at Brinkhotel, a welcoming hotel in a central location. Here you can park your car free of charge for the entire duration of your holiday. After a comfortable night’s stay and a hearty breakfast, you’ll set off on your bike towards your next destination.

Day 2: Zuidlaren to Zuidlaren (approx. 56 km) – Overnight stay at the Brinkhotel
Today you’ll cycle via the tranquil Zuidlaardermeer to Groningen, where a visit to the iconic Martini Tower is definitely worth it. The route then takes you past the Paterswoldsemeer and through Eelde, after which you’ll return to the Brinkhotel in Zuidlaren for the night.

Day 3: Zuidlaren to Borger / Ees / Odoorn (approx. 55 to 60 km) – Overnight stay in Borger / Ees / Odoorn
After a comfortable night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, you’ll set off on your bike. The route takes you through the Drentsche Aa National Park and across the Balloërveld. At the end of the day, you’ll arrive at a hotel in Borger / Ees / Odoorn.

Day 4: Borger / Ees / Odoorn to Borger / Ees / Odoorn (approx. 58 km)
Today you’ll cycle through the Valtherbos to Emmen, where you can enjoy the lively town centre or visit WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo. You’ll then return to Odoorn via quiet roads and green paths. A varied route full of nature and experiences.

Day 5: Borger / Ees / Odoorn to Dwingeloo (approx. 55 to 60 km) – Hotel Wesseling
After a delicious breakfast, the third day of cycling begins. You’ll first cycle to Poolshoogte (viewing tower and tea house), where you’ll have the chance to take in the sweeping views of the Hondsrug. Before cycling on to Hotel Wesseling, you’ll cycle across the heathland of Dwingelderveld National Park. 

Day 6: Dwingeloo to Dwingeloo (approx. 60 km) - Hotel Wesseling
Today you’ll cycle via the Holtingerveld to Frederiksoord, where you’ll discover the famous Colonies of Benevolence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021. You’ll then pass through Vledder, known for the Museum of Fake Art, and cycle along the edge of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. You’ll return to Dwingeloo via the charming village of Diever, with its village green.

Day 7: Dwingeloo to Zuidlaren (approx. 63 km) – Departure
Today, after a hearty breakfast, you’ll enjoy the varied landscape of Drenthe, with its lovely blend of nature and culture. You’ll then cycle on towards Zuidlaren, where you’ll look back on a varied day full of nature, history and culture. This is where your cycling holiday ends and it’s time to head home.

This cycling holiday is all about relaxed exploration and comfortable accommodation. An ideal way to explore several regions, with the assurance of good hotels and hassle-free organisation.

This cycling holiday is subject to availability. You will therefore receive your final travel documents no later than two working days after making your booking. These will include the final itinerary, the exact hotels where you will be staying, the address details and all other practical information for your trip. Until then, the programme described above gives a good idea of the route and the accommodation that may form part of this cycling holiday.

Please note: bicycles are not included in this cycling holiday, giving you the freedom to bring your own preferred bicycle. Would you rather rent a bicycle? In Step 3 – "Extras", you can reserve a touring bicycle or e-bike for the duration of your cycling holiday. The bicycle will be available from Day 2 at 10:00 AM and must be returned no later than 5:00 PM on the final day. If you reserve a rental bicycle, please mention the height of all participants in Step 3 – "Special requests", so the bicycles can be prepared in the correct sizes.

Check-in at all hotels is available daily from 3.00 pm. You are, of course, welcome to arrive earlier to enjoy the surroundings, but please bear in mind that your room is guaranteed to be available from 3.00 pm.
