Linz, once briefly the capital of the Habsburg Empire, is a city full of history. Due to its location on the Danube River, people have lived there since the beginning of the era. This city of culture has a wealth of beautiful Baroque architecture, museums, historic shopping streets, cultural activities, art and culture. Visit the Schlossmuseum which dates back to the 9th century and overlooks the Danube. Here you can admire a collection dating from prehistory to modern times, on display are sculptures, paintings and armor. A little further on the Hauptplatz stands the magnificent sculpture the Holy Trinity 20 meters high. Take a terrace and enjoy the baroque houses all around. Don't miss eating the Linzer Torte, baked according to one of the oldest cake recipes in the world. Linz also has one of the most important museums of modern art in Austria, the Lentos Art Museum, with a collection of more than 1,000 paintings, sculptures and artifacts.
