Over the centuries, the former restaurant "Beim Engel" evolved into a gastronomic venue and a traditional hotel. From 1660 to 2001, the property was privately owned, with the last 188 years under the Kleber family. As a meeting place for high-ranking visitors and politicians, such as the author Ernst Jünger, various members of the Group 47 literary circle, François Mitterrand, and Helmut Kohl, Hotel Kleber Post witnessed significant social and political events.

After a hotel expansion in 1995, the Kleber family had to relinquish the hotel in 2001. The city of Bad Saulgau took over the building and operated it as a bed and breakfast. Many interested parties failed to acquire it until the local Reisch family was awarded the contract for its acquisition and renovation in 2008.

In 2009, the Kleber Post was reopened as a 4-star hotel and restaurant in the heart of Bad Saulgau.
